Since its launch, László Dobszay’ series The World of Tones - Introduction to Music Literature represents a fundamentally new approach in teaching Western Art music both in the context of school music education and the training of solfége and music theory for professional musicians. This approach can simply be referred to as style-based approach that emphasises the importance of using stylistically coherent musical materials in the development of various partial musical skills. The result of this training is a comprehensive understanding of classical musical styles and well developed skills and musical knowledge.

This series had a significant impact on the current adaptation of Kodály’s educational concept in practice in Hungary. The English translation of these volumes, especially the Teacher's manuals provides a full understanding of the teaching and learning process according to this approach. For best results these two volumes (Part I and II) should be used together with Pupils’ books. Recommended for educators working with pupils aged 10+ and students at university/college level.

This book highlights the songs and dances of important Jewish holidays along with clear guidelines on how teach a song in a classroom setting. Teaching tips and easy explanations help the teacher to find his/her own voice in delivering engaging music lessons while introducing this exotic repertoire. Also recommended for choir conductors to enrich their musical repertoires as many songs are available with their easy choral versions as well.

A methodology reference book, which is equally suited for music education students at colleges and practitioners of solfége and for music theory classes for children aged 6 to 14. On one hand, it is firmly based on Zoltán Kodály’s concept of music education as reflected in the systematic use of singing and relative solmisation in the teaching/learning process. On the other hand, regarding the choice and the organisation of the musical repertory as well as the methodological thinking, it builds on László Dobszay’s teaching approach inherent in his textbook series, of epochal significance, “The World of Tones.”
